Roughriders Close Pre-Season With a Saskatoon Classic, Win 31-27 Over the Blue Bombers

The Saskatchewan Roughriders gave Saskatoon fans a night they will remember for a long time on Saturday. Playing at Griffiths Stadium for the first time since 1991, the defending Grey Cup champions topped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 31-27 in front of 7,654 fans. Rookie quarterback Brayden Schager delivered the moment of the night, threading a three-yard touchdown pass to receiver Daniel Wiebe, with just 42 seconds on the clock to seal the win.

It was a strong pre-season finale for a team entering the 2026 season with championship expectations. Veterans across the roster played a full game, and a handful of rookies put their hands up for roster spots. The regular season opener is June 13 at Mosaic Stadium against the B.C. Lions, a rematch of last season's Western Final. If Saturday was a preview, Rider Nation has a lot to look forward to.

🤝 COMMUNITY

Piapot First Nation Brings Over 100 Volunteers to Clean Up North Central Before Summer

Over 100 volunteers gathered at the Creeland Mini Mart and Gas Bar in Regina's North Central neighbourhood on Friday for a community cleanup organized by Piapot First Nation. Armed with rubber gloves and trash pickers, participants cleared debris from streets and green spaces across the area, making the neighbourhood a little brighter heading into the warmest months of the year.

The effort brought together Piapot Child and Family Services employees, urban reserve community members, and local volunteers working side by side. Piapot First Nation operates an urban reserve between Fifth Avenue and Angus Street in North Central, and the Creeland Gas Bar has long served as a neighbourhood anchor. For the volunteers, it was a straightforward act of care for the place they call home.

💦 CITY UPDATE

Summer's First Big Win: Regina's Spray Pads Are Open and Free Through Mid-September

The City of Regina confirmed Friday that spray pads at locations across the city are now open for the season. They are available daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. through mid-September and, best of all, free to use. With temperatures this week heading into the low 30s, the timing could not be better. The only exception is Kinsmen Park South, which is currently undergoing upgrades and will open later in the summer.

🏓 RECREATION

A Major Indoor Pickleball Club Is Coming to Regina, With a Pop-Up Planned for This Summer

Pickleball's rise across Saskatchewan just hit a new milestone. Canadian franchise The Picklr Canada has signed a multi-unit development agreement with Saskatchewan Pickleball Clubs Ltd., granting the group exclusive rights to build and operate premium indoor clubs in both Saskatoon and Regina. The Saskatoon location has secured a 10-year lease with an opening targeted for later this year. The Regina club is in the site-selection phase, but organizers are planning to open a pop-up facility in the Queen City this summer to help address what they describe as strong and growing demand.

If you have tried to book court time lately and found options scarce, this is exactly the kind of news the local pickleball community has been waiting for. The Picklr model is built around modern, accessible spaces designed for all ages and skill levels, focused as much on community and connection as competition. More details on the summer pop-up are expected soon.

🛴 LIFESTYLE

The Orange Blurs Are Back: Neuron E-Scooters Return to Regina Streets for Summer

Regina's bright orange Neuron e-scooters are back on city streets, returning for another season of shared mobility across the Queen City. The fleet is available across multiple neighbourhoods via the Neuron app, which handles everything from unlocking to payment. With temperatures pushing toward 30°C this week and beyond, conditions are about as good as they get for a scooter trip through Wascana, along Wascana Creek, or across a sunny stretch of 13th Avenue.

It is a simple, low-cost way to get around the city without taking the car, and a surprisingly enjoyable way to move through Regina's green spaces on a warm summer evening. Ride at a safe speed, stay off the sidewalks, and enjoy the sun.
