Pats Head to Medicine Hat for Elimination Game 5 After a Tough Week at Home

The Regina Pats dropped back-to-back games at the Brandt Centre this week, falling 8-2 in Game 3 on Tuesday and 4-2 in Game 4 on Wednesday, and now trail the defending champion Medicine Hat Tigers 3-1 in their first-round series. The frustration in the room is not about effort. Head coach Brad Herauf pointed out after Game 4 that the Pats created plenty of dangerous scoring chances all night but could not convert when the moment was there. In Game 4, Zachary Lansard opened the scoring, but the Pats could not hold on as Medicine Hat pulled away for the win. Keets Fawcett summed it up plainly after the final buzzer: "We're hungry. We want to go down swinging."

Game 5 is tomorrow in Medicine Hat at Co-op Place. A win brings the series back to the Brandt Centre on Sunday. This young Pats squad already proved they could win in that building when they stole Game 2 on the road, and Herauf is leaning on exactly that memory heading into tomorrow. If you want to watch locally, find a sports bar downtown and make some noise. This team earned its playoff spot and it is not ready to go home.

Saskatchewan's Olympic and Paralympic Heroes Welcomed Home With a Celebration at the Legislature

Twenty-seven athletes, coaches, officials, and support staff with Saskatchewan ties were recognized at the Legislative Building on Thursday after returning from the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games in Italy. Together, Saskatchewan's contingent brought home six medals. Regina native Ben Hebert captured gold in men's curling. Emily Clark earned silver in women's hockey, and Darcy Kuemper and Brandon Hagel added silver in men's hockey. On the Paralympic side, Gilbert Dash of Kipling took gold in mixed wheelchair curling, Brittany Hudak earned bronze in women's Para cross-country skiing, and Kurt Oatway claimed bronze in men's Para alpine downhill.

The province hosted a public reception following the legislative recognition, with Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross telling the crowd that Saskatchewan was extraordinarily well-represented in Italy. In the last 50 years, more than 200 Olympic and Paralympic athletes with Saskatchewan ties have received funding from Sask Lotteries on their journey to the Games. This province punches well above its weight, and Thursday was a great reminder of that.

Regina's Own Scott Woloshin Goes Viral on the World Stage With His Eyes on the 2028 Olympics

When fireworks lit up the sky above a packed BMO Stadium in Los Angeles last month, a Regina native was standing at the centre of it all. Scott Woloshin, manager of officiating development with Football Canada, served as referee for the Fanatics Flag Football Classic on March 21, a spectacle that has been called one of the greatest moments in the sport's history. Woloshin called it the number one highlight of his career and said it is hard to imagine a game getting much bigger than that one.

Flag football makes its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, and Woloshin is helping ensure officiating keeps pace with the sport's explosive growth. He sits on an international rules committee formalizing flag football officiating and training around the world, and his journey from Regina's prairie fields to the sport's biggest stages has not gone unnoticed back home.

Saskatchewan Among Canada's Leaders in Digital Health With Renewed $8M MySaskHealthRecord Investment

Saskatchewan just renewed its commitment to digital health with an $8 million contract extension for MySaskHealthRecord through eHealth Saskatchewan and TELUS Health. The platform gives residents secure online access to their lab results, imaging reports, immunization records, and prescription history. More than 750,000 residents are now signed up, representing roughly 60 per cent of the provincial population and one of the highest per-capita adoption rates in Canada.

If you have not signed up yet, now is a good time. Registration is free, a mobile app is available, and family access options are built in. Being able to review your own results before appointments and track your health information over time is useful for anyone navigating specialist care or managing a chronic condition.

Breast Cancer Wait List Down 87 Per Cent and Regina Now Has a Dedicated Health Centre

There is real good news on a file that has been difficult: the number of Saskatchewan women waiting for urgent breast cancer diagnostic procedures has dropped by more than 87 per cent since the Out-of-Province Breast Assessment Program launched in November 2023. As of mid-March, 831 patients had been referred to a private radiology clinic in Calgary, with approximately 746 already completing their procedures. The contract with Canadian Surgery Solutions has been extended to March 2027 to protect those gains while in-province capacity continues to grow.

The long-term solution is being built right here in Regina. The Regina Breast Health Centre is now open, offering co-located diagnostic imaging and specialist consultations closer to home. A new mobile mammography unit introduced in January 2026 is already serving 42 rural and northern communities, with a second unit arriving this spring. For any woman in Saskatchewan navigating breast health concerns, speak with your doctor about your referral status and timelines.

Awards include 17 scholarships of $2,000 each and one of $1,000, distributed across the University of Regina, First Nations University, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Campion College, Luther College, and several vocational schools. 🚌 CITY UPDATE

Easter Weekend Service Schedule and Expanded Digital Parking Downtown

Two practical updates from the City this week :

First, the Easter weekend service schedule is now published: Regina Transit is operating on a modified holiday schedule April 3 through 6, and the Landfill has adjusted hours for the long weekend. Check Regina Landfill and Regina Transit for the full breakdown before heading out.

Second, the City expanded its downtown parking payment options on April 1, with PayByPhone now available across downtown alongside new Zone A and Zone B designations to better manage demand and improve accessibility.

If you park downtown regularly, PayByPhone is worth setting up. Download the app, add your plate and a payment method, and you are good to go. The new zoning is designed to make high-demand areas easier to manage and improve availability for residents visiting shops and services. More details are at Regina - Parking.

Regina's Green Cart Program Just Extended the Landfill's Life by Three Years

Here is a quiet win worth celebrating: during an executive committee meeting this week, city officials reported that Regina's landfill is now expected to last until 2053, three years longer than previous estimates. The extension is credited directly to the success of the green cart organics program and increased community participation in waste diversion. Every time residents correctly sort their compost, it reduces the volume going to landfill and extends the life of a piece of infrastructure that would cost hundreds of millions of dollars to replace.

The numbers suggest the program is working better than projected. Landfill capacity is not the most glamorous civic topic, but adding three years to its lifespan through behaviour change rather than new capital investment is a real community achievement. If you have not made green cart sorting a habit yet, this is a good reminder that it actually adds up.

🫀 EDUCATION & HEALTH

CPR Training Is Coming to Saskatchewan Classrooms This Fall

Starting in September, Saskatchewan school divisions will have the opportunity to bring lifesaving CPR skills directly into the classroom through the CardiacCrash program, a new partnership between the Ministry of Education and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The program teaches students the basics of CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator, and is being offered to all school divisions at no cost. Teachers receive free training and materials, with the rollout targeting Grade 8 and Grade 10 students first.

The initiative comes in response to Saskatchewan's high rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest fatalities, where early CPR can dramatically improve survival outcomes. One school division has already piloted CardiacCrash with strong results and very positive feedback from students. The ripple effect is part of the point: kids learn these skills, bring them home, and families become better prepared too. For every parent of a school-age child in Regina, this is welcome news.
