Happy Monday, Regina! 👋

The heat is not letting up. Today climbs to a sunny 32°C, Tuesday holds steady around the same mark, and Wednesday pushes even higher to 35°C, the hottest day of the stretch. Dry skies are in the forecast right through the week, so keep the water bottle handy.

There is plenty to love about Regina this morning. A Cathedral ice cream shop has become an honest to goodness worldwide sensation, a beloved local radio station hits a century on the air today, and the Queen City Ex rolls into town midweek. Let's get into it.

Elle's Café, a soft serve shop on 13th Avenue in Cathedral, has turned into a genuine worldwide sensation after a video of owner Elle Grzeda posing beside a snow covered e-scooter this past spring went viral online. "It's just honestly like an astonishing honour for us," Grzeda said. "It's bigger than my dreams could have dreamt."

Visitors are now showing up from as far away as Germany and the United States just to see the shop in person. Laura Nann, who lives in Germany, added a Regina stop to her Canadian road trip after discovering the videos online. Deputy city manager Jennifer Johnson called Cathedral one of Regina's most unique neighbourhoods and said Elle was a natural fit to show it off.

Dimensions 2025, the Saskatchewan Craft Council's major juried exhibition, is now open to the public at the Cumberland Gallery inside the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, where it will run until Oct. 20. The show gathers 30 works from 28 makers across ceramics, fibre art, woodworking, fused glass, beadwork and photography, chosen from more than 200 open submissions.

SCC executive director Jeff Erbach said the adjudicators curated a special exhibition that captures the province's depth of talent. Fourteen Dimensions Awards were handed out as part of the show in 2025. The juried competition now runs on a multi year cycle, with the next open call not until 2029, making this collection a rare chance to see some of the province's best current work in one place.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are turning the page after Thursday's heartbreaking 36-34 loss to the Edmonton Elks at Mosaic Stadium, a game decided by a 57-yard field goal on the final play. Head coach Corey Mace said the plan is simple: let the result sting for a day, then get back to the film and clean things up before the rematch in Edmonton on Aug. 1.

Quarterback Trevor Harris stayed characteristically upbeat about the club's chances in the rematch, adding the group has full belief in its coaching staff and game plan. Both Edmonton and Saskatchewan sit near the top of the CFL's West Division as the season reaches its midpoint.

Monday marks a full century on the air for 620 CKRM, the station long known as the Voice of Saskatchewan. It first signed on as 665 CJRM from Moose Jaw's Richardson Building on July 27, 1926, before moving to Regina in 1935 and eventually landing on its current frequency in 2001.

Supporters marked the milestone early with a sold out "100 Years in One Night" gala at Conexus Arts Centre, honouring nine of the station's on-air icons across the decades. Moose Jaw Mayor James Murdock noted his city's role in the station's origin story. "Before CKRM became known across the province as the voice of Saskatchewan, its story began in our friendly city," he said.

Regina is once again hosting the Football Canada U18 Women's National Championship, the country's premier tackle football event for under-18 women, with the tournament running through Wednesday, July 29 at Leibel Field and Mosaic Stadium. Football Saskatchewan is running the show, more than four years after the event made its debut right here in the Queen City back in 2022.

The championship brings together provincial teams from across the country for a shot at a national title, giving young female athletes a rare chance to compete on a national stage. It is a genuinely exciting showcase of grassroots growth in women's football, and it is happening in our own backyard this week.
