🩺 HEALTH
Seven New Nurse Practitioners Are Starting Work in Regina
There is welcome news for anyone who has waited too long to see a primary care provider. Saskatchewan's health minister was in Regina on Tuesday to announce that seven new nurse practitioner contracts have been signed in the city, adding more front-line capacity to a system that has been stretched.
Nurse practitioners can diagnose conditions, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and manage ongoing care, which means more Reginans getting seen sooner and family doctors freed up for more complex cases. It is a practical, tangible step that should make a difference for real people in real neighbourhoods.
If you have been struggling to find consistent primary care, this is the kind of capacity that helps close that gap. A good day for the city's health system.
🏈 RIDERS

Riders Sitting at 2-0 and Debuting a "Prairie Blizzard" White-Out at Mosaic on Friday
What a start to the title defence. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are 2-0 after a wild 40-37 overtime win over the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, and receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker is rewriting the record book, his 19 catches through two games tying the most in franchise history to open a season. The community-owned club also held a notably cheerier annual meeting this week, five years on from its post-pandemic low and fresh off a fifth Grey Cup.
Now comes the spectacle. Because Toronto's BMO Field is booked for the FIFA World Cup, the Argonauts' "home" game is being staged in Regina, which means the Riders are technically the visitors and will wear white at home. To mark the one-time occasion, the club is debuting a brand-new all-white "Prairie Blizzard" uniform, a fresh take on the logo with the black stripped out entirely to put the focus on green and white. Fans are asked to wear white to match, and in a "jerseys off our backs" promotion, players will hand their game-worn jerseys to lucky fans in attendance after the final whistle.
Kickoff is Friday, June 26 at 7:00 PM at Mosaic Stadium. Wear white, get loud, and enjoy a piece of Rider history.
🏒 HOCKEY

Pats Name David Bell as Their New Head Coach
The Regina Pats have their bench boss for next season. The club announced Monday that David Bell will take over as head coach, stepping in after Brad Herauf was let go earlier in the off-season. Bell arrives with a deep coaching résumé built over the past several years in the junior and pro ranks, and he inherits a young team that returned to the WHL playoffs this spring for the first time in two years.
With the draft and a spring development camp already behind them, the Pats now have their leadership in place to build toward the fall. Fresh direction, a hungry roster, and a summer to get everyone on the same page.
Welcome to Regina, Coach Bell.
🌳 COMMUNITY
Five Regina Youth Win the City's "Tree of Life" Design Contest
Here is a story that says a lot about this city. Back in March, the City of Regina put out a call for original "Tree of Life" designs from local Indigenous youth aged 12 to 20. The response was strong, and five finalists have now been chosen, with their artwork set to become lasting visual symbols of Regina's Urban Forest Management Plan.
Congratulations to first-prize winner Lili Beckett of MacNeill Elementary, second-place Emery Capewell of Campbell Collegiate, third-place Syndel Sienna-Elise Smoke of F.W. Johnson Collegiate, and Youth Recognition Award winners Keira Lumberjack of Scott Collegiate and Noah McCabe of Michael A. Riffel High School. Their designs will appear in the final policy document and across educational materials, community programs, and public communications, helping residents connect with the living landscape all around them.
Young people shaping how the whole city sees its trees. That is community-building at its best.

The Countdown Is On for I Love Regina Day in Victoria Park
Mark your calendars, because the city has officially started the countdown to I Love Regina Day, happening Saturday, August 22 in Victoria Park. It is still a couple of months out, but the City is already promising a full day of community spirit, from live entertainment and children's activities to local treats and community exhibitors.
It is the kind of free, all-ages event that captures exactly what makes summer in the Queen City special: neighbours gathering downtown to celebrate the place we call home. We will share the full schedule as it firms up closer to the date.
Something good to look forward to. Pencil it in now.
