A Tough Exit, But a Promising Future: Pats Close Their Season With Their Heads Up
After building a 4-1 lead in Saturday's Game 5 in Medicine Hat, the Regina Pats watched the defending WHL champion Tigers storm all the way back before Cam Parr ended it 51 seconds into overtime for a 5-4 final. The season is over, but this young team gave Regina something genuine to cheer about. Head coach Brad Herauf put it plainly after the final buzzer: the organization's cupboard is full with draft capital, the core is in place, and better days are coming. A meaningful playoff run against the top seed in the league, back-to-back wins at the Brandt Centre earlier in the series, and a group of players who clearly want to be here. The rebuild is real, and so is the optimism.
🌿 ENVIRONMENT

Wascana Centre Is Getting a Healthy Spring Refresh Through Planned Prescribed Burns
The Provincial Capital Commission has announced that prescribed burns are coming to up to five sites within Wascana Centre between April 20 and 24, as part of a multi-agency Oskana Plains prescribed fire training exchange. The planned areas include Wascana Hill, the Prairie Arboretum, the Habitat Conservation Area, the Old Native Prairie Restoration Site near First Nations University, and a field near the Wascana Country Club. Controlled burns of this kind are a well-established land stewardship tool used to manage invasive plant species, reduce wildfire fuel loads, and support the regeneration of native prairie grasses and wildlife habitat. Not a cause for concern at all. Just good science at work in your favourite park.
🏅 COMMUNITY
Saskatchewan Honours 14 Exceptional Volunteers, Including Two From Regina
Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre announced the 14 recipients of the 2025 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal this week, with two Regina residents among those being recognized. Karen Howard, an international figure skating judge who recently returned from the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, has spent decades mentoring skaters and officials at every level across Canada. Carol Marwick is recognized for decades of service spanning an extraordinary range of community events, from the Queen City Marathon and Agribition to the Regina Symphony Orchestra and newcomer inclusion programs. Both will be presented with their medals on April 21 at Government House during National Volunteer Week. Saskatchewan leads the country in volunteerism rates, and it shows.
🏗 CITY UPDATE

11th Avenue Construction Enters Its Final Major Phase Starting Today
The final significant stretch of the 11th Avenue Revitalization Project gets underway this morning, with major infrastructure work resuming between Albert and Broad Street. This phase involves deep underground upgrades in partnership with SaskPower and SaskTel, along with streetscape improvements including wider sidewalks and new tree plantings once construction wraps. Businesses along the corridor remain open throughout, with pedestrian access maintained the entire time. If you are heading downtown this week, allow a little extra time. The finished product is going to make that stretch of downtown genuinely better.

🔬 FAMILY

Spring Break Is Here and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum Has You Covered
With schools out through April 10, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum is reporting strong early turnout for its spring break programming. New interactive Learning Labs and a Dino Egg Hunt scavenger hunt are drawing families in for drop-in fun throughout the week. Regina Public Library branches across the city are also running drop-in programs for all ages during the break. If the kids need somewhere to go and you want something hands-on, educational, and easy on the wallet, both are genuinely worth the trip this week.
🏘 CITY
Record Permits, Deliberate Pace: Regina's Housing Market Is in a Steady Place
Regina's construction industry wrapped 2025 with building permits up more than 38 percent year over year and housing starts at their highest level in five years, according to the Regina and Region Home Builders' Association. New home sales also climbed nearly 19 percent to 508 units. So why aren't finished homes hitting the ground as fast as permits suggest? Builders are being intentional. RRHBA president and CEO Stu Niebergall describes the current moment as "a market reset, not a retreat," with builders sequencing projects carefully to match real demand. Regina's population is expected to reach 294,000 in 2026. Steady, thoughtful, and built to last.
