The city is green, the patios are full, and summer is officially settling in. After a stretch of storms rolled through last week, the forecast is finally letting us catch our breath, so it's a good morning to grab a coffee and ease into the week. Riders Open the Season With a Last-Second Win Over the B.C. Lions
What a way to start. The Saskatchewan Roughriders kicked off their 2026 campaign on Saturday at Mosaic Stadium with a 31-27 win over the B.C. Lions, sealed by a touchdown in the dying seconds. Quarterback Trevor Harris connected with Samuel Emilus for three majors on the night, and running back A.J. Ouellette made the play of the game with a crucial block that flipped a blitzing linebacker and bought Harris the extra second he needed for the winning score.
The victory extends the Riders' season-opening win streak to six games dating back over recent seasons, and it gives the reigning Grey Cup champions exactly the kind of start their fans came to see.
If Saturday was any indication, this is going to be a fun summer at Mosaic.

Regina's First Official Tailgate Was a Roaring Success
Saturday's home opener came with a brand new tradition. The Coors Light Tailgate area welcomed hundreds of season ticket holders before kickoff, and the verdict was unanimous. Fans with permits brought their own food and drinks and were even able to cook in their designated parking spots, turning the lead-up to the game into a party of its own.
"We should have done this sooner," was the sentiment echoing around the lot, as longtime fans embraced a game-day ritual that has long been a staple in other CFL cities.
It is a small change that makes a big difference, and it sounds like it is here to stay.
🏊 City Update

Outdoor Pool Season Is Officially Open
Summer is here, and so is pool weather. The City of Regina has opened its outdoor pools for the season, with Wascana Pool leading the way on June 9, followed by Buffalo Meadows, Maple Leaf, Massey and Regent pools on June 11.
It is the perfect free-or-affordable way to cool off, tire out the kids, or get a few laps in before work. Hours can shift with the weather, so it is worth a quick check of the city's website before you pack the towels.
Grab your sunscreen, the season is short and the water is fine.
🎨 Arts & Culture

Five Regina Artists Named to the 2026 Indigenous Artist in Residence Program
The city's arts community has five new names to celebrate. Five First Nations and Métis artists living in Regina have been selected for the 2026 Indigenous Artist in Residence program, chosen through an open call and review process.
The program supports Indigenous artists in developing their practice while sharing their work and perspectives with the wider community, and it has become a meaningful part of Regina's cultural calendar. This year's cohort represents a rich range of talent right here in our city.
Supporting local artists is one of the best things a city can do, and this is a great example of it in action.

A Regina Painter on Healing, Intuition, and Connection
Local artist and cancer survivor Brianne Urzada has turned painting into something deeper than a craft. Both an artist and a teacher, she describes her approach as "painting intuitively," letting feeling guide the brush and using the canvas as a space for healing and connection.
Her story is a reminder of how powerful local art can be, not just as something to look at, but as something that helps us process, heal, and connect with one another. It is the kind of homegrown talent that makes Regina's creative scene so special.
Keep an eye out for her work, and maybe pick up a brush of your own.
