Your friendly, positive roundup of what’s happening in Regina
Opening note
Happy Wednesday, Regina. 👋
If you’ve been feeling like winter is doing that classic Prairie “fake spring / real winter / fake spring again” routine… you’re not imagining it. Today and tomorrow look surprisingly mild, which is basically your cue to do the one outdoor errand you’ve been avoiding (car wash? mail run? that “I should really shovel” pile?).
Also: the calendar is starting to wake up. We’re heading into Frost season, the arts scene is busy, and there are some very Regina-specific updates worth knowing (especially if you ever register for City programs).
Let’s do the midweek reset. ☕️
In today’s edition
❄️ Frost Regina details for this month
🏛️ New City requirement for rec program pricing + registration
🚰 Why Regina’s winter water main situation looks a little different this year
🚶 New winter trails opening on the edge of the city
🎨 A new call for local artists (and a December exhibition to aim for)
🧸 Support local: a Regina toy shop getting a boost
📅 Highlight events (tonight + this weekend)
Weather: the “how to live your life” forecast 🌤️
Today’s vibe: mild-ish, breezy, and a little sneaky (you’ll think you don’t need gloves… and then you’ll regret it).
Game plan:
Do your outdoor stuff midday (walk, errands, dog loop) while it’s at its best.
Keep a wind layer handy. Regina breezes don’t mess around.
Tonight: if you’re heading to an event, bring grippy footwear—melt-freeze season is here.
The news you should know
Frost Regina is almost here (three weekends of winter fun) ❄️
Frost Regina is back for 2026, and the big thing to know is it runs across three weekends in February so you can actually plan around it instead of trying to cram everything into one day. Expect a city-wide mix of winter activities, warm-up spots, and “okay fine, winter is kind of fun” energy.
If you’ve been itching for something to do that isn’t “walk the mall,” this is your easiest yes.
If you register for City rec programs, there’s a new verification step (starting Feb 1) 🪪
The City of Regina has launched a Resident Verification Program. Starting February 1, 2026, residents need to verify their address in person so they’re ready for summer registration especially where resident pricing and resident registration dates apply.
If you’ve got kids in programs, you do fitness passes, or you’re a “summer rec sign-up day” veteran… this one’s worth bookmarking now.
It’s the difference between “smooth registration day” and “why is this asking me for things at 7:01 a.m.”
Regina winter trails: Tor Hill is open 🥾
If your winter walks have been getting a little repetitive, here’s a fresh option: Tor Hill Winter Recreation Trails are now open, with grooming continuing weekly depending on snow and temps.
This is one of those small quality-of-life wins easy, local, and perfect for a weekend “get outside for 30 minutes” goal.
A new trail = a new reason to move your body without needing a whole production.
Fewer water main breaks this winter (so far) 🚰
A mid-winter warm-up has cities watching infrastructure closely, and a new report notes Regina (and Saskatoon) have seen fewer water main breaks in January compared to previous years.
That doesn’t mean the season is “easy”—freeze/thaw patterns can still be rough on pipesbut it’s a notable shift while we’re in this stretch of milder weather.
Fewer breaks can mean fewer surprise road closures and fewer “why is that block torn up again?” moments.
Call for artists: Indigenous Artist in Residence program is open 🎨
The City has a new call out for its Indigenous Artist in Residence program (2026). The residency runs June to October 2026, includes workshops and community engagement, and will wrap with a final exhibition in December 2026 at the Art Gallery of Regina.
If you know an artist who should apply, this is one of those “send the link with a 👀” moments.
It’s paid, visible, community-facing creative work—exactly the kind of thing that helps build a stronger local arts scene.
Support local: a Regina toy shop getting a moment 🧸
With Toys “R” Us closures in Saskatchewan, Zippity Zoom Toys (a family-owned Regina shop) is seeing a boost—more customers, more attention, and a real reminder that local retail can win when people intentionally shop close to home.
Try this: If you’ve got a birthday party coming up (or you’re the fun aunt/uncle/friend), swing by a local toy store first before defaulting to a big box click.

Quick hits (tiny things worth knowing) ⚡
If you’re a “winter festival planner,” start pencilling in Frost weekends now so you’re not scrambling Friday at 4:45 PM.
If you use City rec programs, don’t leave verification until the last minute—future-you will be grateful.
That’s it for today. If you do one thing: use the mild midday window for a walk + one errand, then reward yourself with something warm and unnecessary. ☕️
Reply and tell me: what’s your go-to “Regina winter treat”—coffee stop, bakery item, comfort meal, or a specific “I only get this in February” thing?
And if this made your morning easier, forward it to a friend who always asks, “what’s happening this week?” 💛
