The Thunder are one win away from a national title
The Regina Thunder will play for Canadian junior football's biggest prize this weekend. The Prairie Football Conference champions meet the B.C. Football Conference champion Westshore Rebels in the Canadian Bowl on Sunday, November 8, with kickoff at 1 p.m. local time at Starlight Stadium in Langford, B.C. A win would bring the franchise its second national junior championship.
Zelionka completed 69.3 per cent of his passes in the regular season, and the Thunder's ground game is led by PFC Most Outstanding Player Peter Boersch. Head coach Scott MacAulay said in a team release that his defence will need to stay focused against a Rebels squad that has played tough all playoffs. Team president Murad Al-Katib called the Thunder "a community franchise" and said he can feel football fans across Saskatchewan rallying behind the club. Both Birmingham's Vodka & Ale House locations are hosting 19+ watch parties, and the team's online auction at thunderauction.ca wraps at noon Sunday.
Wear the colours and bring the volume.
🏫 EDUCATION
Harbour Landing's new school is 70 per cent built
Harbour Landing's second elementary school is 70 per cent complete and on track to welcome students in September 2027. The joint-use building at Gordon Road and Campbell Street will house Meadowlark School on the public side and St. Carlo Acutis on the Catholic side, with room for up to 500 Regina Public students and up to 350 Regina Catholic students, plus 90 new child care spaces. The province marked the milestone Wednesday alongside both school divisions and the City of Regina, which contributed $4 million toward the project's $63.3 million total cost.
The new space should bring real relief to the neighbourhood. Regina Public Schools board chair Adam Hicks told CBC that over the past five years, the division has had to move 400 students out of Harbour Landing School to three nearby schools to manage capacity. He said the new building "will finally allow all five buildings to be at or below capacity," and he expects Meadowlark to open with just under 500 students.
More elbow room is on the way.

Regina's Indigenous Veterans Monument goes online
You can now visit the Saskatchewan Indigenous Veterans Monument in Victoria Park from anywhere in the world. The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) of Regina has launched Living Honour, an interactive website built with the University of Regina's Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance and sponsored by the Indigenous Veterans Monument Committee. The site offers a 360-degree view of the monument, which honours the contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous members of Canada's Armed Forces, along with the discrimination many faced when they came home.
Five U of R students designed the site: Samantha Lizamon, Carmen Jerry, Sydney Coleman, Bee Bird and Kadence Meredith, mentored by Creative Technologies & Design department head Dr. Charity Marsh through a fourth-year professional placement course. Visitors can explore the monument through seasonal settings and soundscapes, watch video interviews with Indigenous veterans and soldiers, read its history in English and French, and see how honour is expressed in seven Indigenous languages spoken in Saskatchewan.
A good way to spend a few quiet minutes before Remembrance Day.
🏙️ CITY UPDATE

A first look at Regina's proposed 2027 budget
City administration released its proposed 2027 budget on Thursday, recommending a 5.81 per cent mill rate increase, and council will deliberate it December 7 to 11. The plan sets revenue and expenses at $734 million, up $58 million from 2026. Highlights include roughly $122 million for continued construction of the Indoor Aquatics Facility, more than $20 million for street and sidewalk renewal, and $7 million toward new buses to grow the transit network. Acting City Manager Jim Nicol said council asked administration to keep Regina affordable, and "we have done that."
Once the tax increase is combined with a 10.27 per cent utility rate hike and library increases, the average household would pay $36.29 more per month, or $435.48 a year. Administration found $1.4 million in service reductions to reach its target, and without them the increase would have been about seven per cent. Council will also weigh optional enhancements, including better snow clearing and planning for a new Regina Floral Conservatory, that together would add 2.25 per cent, along with options to restore park maintenance trimmed in the 2026 budget.
Budget week at City Hall starts December 7.
