A Sign, a Front-Row Seat, and a Moment Lea Mck Will Never Forget
Lea Mck, from Birch Narrows Dene Nation in northern Saskatchewan, made the trip down to Country Thunder Saskatchewan in Craven with one goal: get noticed by headliner Riley Green. She and her cousins made a sign, staked out seats right in front of the stage, and it worked. Green invited her up to sing with him Friday night in front of the whole crowd.
It is the kind of story that makes a summer festival season memorable, and a great reminder of why Country Thunder draws so many Saskatchewan people out to Craven every July.
🤝 COMMUNITY

Carmichael Outreach Is Asking Regina for a Hand Through the Heat
Carmichael Outreach is seeing close to 8,000 people come through its doors every month, and with a serious heatwave settling over the region, the local non-profit has put out a public call for donations to help keep up. Development director Janis Miller says sustaining that level of demand has been a real challenge.
Regina has a long history of stepping up for organizations like Carmichael when it counts, and a hot week is exactly the kind of moment where a small donation of water, snacks, or funds can make a real difference for people who need it most.

Pats Add Size on the Blue Line, Signing Import Defenceman Tomas Cermak
The Regina Pats have officially signed defenceman Tomas Cermak, the player they took 85th overall in the 2026 CHL Import Draft. The 18-year-old, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound left shot from Plzeň, Czechia, put up five goals and 15 points in 48 games last season with BK Mladá Boleslav's U20 squad.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing Tomas in a Pats sweater as we feel he has the tools to be a dependable two-way defenceman for our squad," said general manager Dale Derkatch. It's another building block as the Pats shape their roster for next season.
🌟 YOUTH SPORTS
Two Pats Prospects Are Regina-Bound for Hockey Canada's Biggest U17 Stage
Pats prospects Logan Henry and Cruz Nicolay have both been invited to Hockey Canada's National Under-17 Development Camp, running July 17 to 21 in Oakville, Ontario. They are among just 80 players from across the country selected for the five-day camp, and one of 29 from the WHL.
Henry, a forward from Prince George, B.C., was named playoff MVP for Team British Columbia at the WHL Cup this year. Nicolay, a defenceman from Rocky Mountain House, Alta., already got a taste of the WHL with the Pats in March. "It's a testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication they've shown throughout their hockey careers," said GM Dale Derkatch. Great things ahead for both.
🏈 RIDERS
Josh Woods Runs Into the Record Books With a 107-Yard Pick-Six

Sunday's game against Hamilton at Mosaic Stadium was already memorable for the heat (35°C, the hottest Roughriders home game since 1952), and then Josh Woods made it unforgettable. The linebacker stepped in front of a Jake Dolegala pass and sprinted 107 yards for a touchdown, the third-longest interception return in franchise history and a new Riders record for a linebacker.
The pick-six punctuated a dominant defensive showing as Saskatchewan cruised to a 38-7 win, improving to 4-1 and tying Edmonton atop the CFL's West Division. The Riders are now on their bye week before hosting the Elks on July 23.
🦟 QUICK NOTE

Rain and Heat Are Making for a Big Mosquito Summer
Regina's mosquito traps caught 780 mosquitoes over 11 weeks this spring, and then nearly 2,000 in just the past two days, according to the city. The combination of recent rain and the current heat is exactly the recipe mosquitoes love. A quick reminder: dump any standing water around your yard (it only takes a cup to breed hundreds), and check Regina.ca/Mosquitoes for weekly count updates.
