Friday's bringing a stretch of showers before the weekend clears up nicely, with sunshine and a high near 26°C by Sunday. If you've got outdoor plans, Saturday and Sunday are shaping up to be great days enjoy the sun.

In today's edition:

The Pats are adding a competitive element to training camp this year with the inaugural Hornung Cup, splitting all 68 players across four teams that will face off over the first three days of camp. The cup honours Brad Hornung, a Regina native who played two seasons with the Pats in the 1980s before a spinal cord injury on the ice ended his career and left him a quadriplegic. His number 8 hangs in the rafters at the Brandt Centre, and the WHL's sportsmanship trophy already carries his name.

The four teams are named for standout Pats alumni: Clark Gillies, Greg Joly, Jordan Eberle and Sam Steel. Players arrive August 26 for registration, with round-robin play Thursday and Friday before the Hornung Cup final at noon on Saturday, August 29. All on-ice sessions at the Brandt Centre are open to the public, and training camp wraps with the annual Blue vs. White Game on August 30.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed American receiver Rashod Owens this week, adding a Cincinnati Bengals training camp alum who spent time with the Calgary Stampeders before joining the Green and White. Meanwhile, receiver Johnny Johnson III continues to find his footing after signing in May, coming off a five catch, 117 yard outing in last Friday's 42-20 win over Ottawa. The former Houston Texans pass catcher said the coaching staff and Trevor Harris were big draws in choosing Saskatchewan.

The Riders are back in action Saturday against the host Hamilton Tiger-Cats before heading to B.C. on August 23 and returning home to Mosaic Stadium on August 29 against Toronto. It's shaping up to be a busy stretch for a Saskatchewan squad that has embraced its new additions all season long.

The Autism Resource Centre's annual Walk the Talk for Autism is coming back to Goose Hill Park on August 29, bringing together families, friends and members of Regina's neurodivergent community for a morning built around inclusion and connection. Registration and freebies start at 10 a.m., with the walk itself getting underway at 10:30. Organizers say the event is as much about visibility as it is about fundraising, letting autistic and neurodivergent Reginans know they're valued members of the community.

Funds raised help keep ARC's programs affordable or free, including life skills cooking classes for adults and subsidized summer camps for youth. This year's campers visited the University of Regina's soccer and football teams and took part in gymnastics and other activities around the city. This will be the fourth walk since the event returned from a pandemic hiatus in 2023.

A summer of extreme weather across Saskatchewan has kept Regina's auto body shops busy, with SGI reporting more than 16,000 storm-related claims so far this year, over 12,000 of them tied to the June 9 hail storm that hit the city.

Wait times at shops in Regina that are typically two to three weeks have stretched out considerably, with some appointments now booked up to eight months ahead for hail damage work. If you're waiting on a repair, it's worth calling around, since booking windows vary shop to shop. It's a good reminder of just how busy Regina's tradespeople have been keeping the city running this summer.
