Skies are clearing and staying that way. After a mix of sun and cloud today, Regina climbs to a sunny 29°C, then keeps rising to 31°C Thursday and 32°C Friday, a perfect stretch for a big week of outdoor action.

A Regina artist's phone took an unplanned two-kilometre trip out of an airplane, a Regina family opened the city's first free-roaming VR arena, and the Roughriders and Pats both added new faces to their rosters. Let's get into it.

Regina artist Heather Cline was flying with pilot David Stanchuk in his Cessna Skyhawk when her iPhone was pulled out of the aircraft and fell nearly two kilometres to the ground below. Cline was stunned they could even locate the device, let alone recover it. The pair tracked the phone's location and set out by grid road, then by trail, before finishing the search on foot through a canola field, where they eventually found it lying in the crop.

The phone had survived the fall in remarkably good condition, still able to record video and photos as though nothing had happened. Stanchuk, who has flown since his days as an air cadet and once dreamed of becoming an astronaut, said the pair have no plans to stop flying together. Cline is taking one precaution going forward, joking she might secure the phone more permanently next time.

When Solomon and Temi Adewole moved their family from Nigeria to Regina, they saw a gap in the city's entertainment scene and decided to fill it themselves. The couple opened Another World VR, a nearly 1,300-square-foot free-roaming virtual reality arena where groups can walk and play together, plus party rooms built for birthdays, youth groups and corporate team-building. Solomon said Regina already has plenty of entertainment options, but nothing else offers this kind of free-roaming format. "We are the first and only in Regina," he said.

Regina & District Chamber of Commerce CEO Mike Tate said new entertainment businesses like this one do more for a city than people often assume, helping attract residents, keep talented workers around and generate spending that ripples out to nearby shops and restaurants. The Adewoles, who have run entertainment businesses for 16 years, say the reaction since opening has been enthusiastic, with families, birthday parties and corporate groups already booking in. Their biggest hurdle now is simply getting the word out that a free-roaming VR arena exists in Regina at all.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders added depth on defence this week, signing American defensive lineman Derick Roberson and defensive back Millard Bradford. Roberson spent three seasons with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 to 2021, appearing in 19 games and recording 29 tackles, six tackles for loss and five sacks, plus three playoff appearances during Tennessee's 2019 postseason run. He returns to Canadian football after three seasons with the DC Defenders, where he earned All-UFL honours at defensive end in 2026 after posting 47 tackles and eight sacks in 11 games.

Bradford, a defensive back out of TCU, signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and later attended training camp with the Chicago Bears and a rookie camp with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. Over five collegiate seasons with the Horned Frogs, he collected 231 tackles, four interceptions and 19 pass breakups, twice returning picks for touchdowns, and earned Honourable Mention All-Big 12 recognition in both 2022 and 2023.

The Regina Pats have signed Slovakian forward Samuel Karsay to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, adding another piece to their 2026 import class. Karsay, 18, was selected in the third round, 146th overall, in this year's CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-1 left winger split last season between HK Spartak Dubnica in Slovakia's second division and the under-20 club at HK Dukla Trenčín, picking up seven points in 11 games with the U20 squad. He was also ranked 63rd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft.

Karsay added an international accolade to his resume this year, helping Slovakia win silver at the 2026 IIHF U18 World Championship. He becomes the second member of the Pats' 2026 import class to sign, joining defenceman Tomas Cermak, who inked his agreement earlier in the week. General manager Dale Derkatch said the club is looking forward to seeing what the two-way forward can bring to the lineup.
