Summer isn't letting go without a fight. Expect around 19°C today, then a warm finish to the week with highs near 26°C Thursday and 27°C Friday before things cool off for the weekend.

Big plans for the Floral Conservatory, a Saskatchewan country star with a Brandt Centre date, and good news for the province's potash industry lead the way today. Let's get into it.

The Regina Floral Conservatory brought its vision for a new building to a special city council meeting on Tuesday, and the target date is ambitious: late 2030, lining up with Saskatchewan's 125th anniversary. According to the conservatory, SaskBuilds has given the group permission to build in Wascana Park. President Ron Sharpe said the project is estimated at $48 million for a 42,000-square-foot facility, though that figure isn't confirmed yet. The proposed funding split is 50 per cent federal, 20 per cent provincial, 20 per cent city and 10 per cent from the conservatory itself.

The current building is 60 years old it's one hail or wind storm away from needing a new roof. For now, the group is asking the city to help fund an environmental assessment as part of 2027 budget deliberations, and it has already applied for federal money through the Build Communities Strong Fund. If the timeline holds, pre-design wraps up in early 2027 and construction runs from 2028 to 2029. Unlike today's volunteer-run space, the new conservatory would have full-time staff and paid admission.

Saskatchewan country star Jess Moskaluke got the surprise of her career Saturday night at the Canadian Country Music Awards in Saskatoon, when fellow Saskatchewan artist Kalsey Kulyk announced to a packed SaskTel Centre that both of them will soon make their Grand Ole Opry debuts. Moskaluke, who was born in Langenburg, takes the famous Nashville stage on October 29. Speaking to reporters afterward, she said her whole team had kept her in the dark all day, and that her parents showed up unexpectedly after being due at a family wedding.

Moskaluke said she still lives in Saskatchewan and is proud to fly the province's flag, and she plans to release a Christmas album and new music in 2027. Regina fans don't have to wait for the Opry to see her, either. She headlines the free tailgate party before the Pats' 2026 Home Opener this Sunday, September 27, at the Brandt Centre. Festivities start at noon in the Bennett Dunlop Ford Party Pit, the tailgate is included with a game ticket, and puck drop against the Swift Current Broncos is at 2 p.m.

A day after floating a plan to buy cheaper potash from Belarus, U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his country will keep buying from Canada. Speaking to reporters at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said the U.S. would "continue to go with Canada," while adding that Belarus would like to sell for less. That matters here at home: Canada is the world's largest potash producer, the United States is its biggest customer, and 11 of Canada's 12 active potash mines are in Saskatchewan.

Premier Scott Moe called the Belarus idea unrealistic, telling CBC's Power & Politics that Saskatchewan offers a reliable supply, has the infrastructure already in place, and will have more potash available in the years ahead. Industry leaders and economists raised similar doubts, questioning how potash from Eastern Europe could undercut a supplier right next door. Belarus's own president, Alexander Lukashenko, has also said his country can't ship the U.S. large volumes. Fertilizer Canada added that Canadian potash has been a dependable supply for North American farmers for decades.

That foam takeout container you've been dropping off at SARCAN is getting a smarter ride to its next life. A new $300,000 densifier in Saskatoon, jointly funded by SARCAN and SK Recycles, now compresses foam collected from all 73 SARCAN depots across the province into dense blocks that are far easier to store and ship. It's the first time the technology has been used as part of a household recycling program in Saskatchewan. From there, the compressed foam heads to Quebec, where it's turned into insulation boards.

Saskatchewan residents have recycled more than 50 tonnes of foam since collection began in 2024. Kelly Goyer, director of post-collection with SK Recycles, said the material was rarely recycled successfully in the province before then, because it's so light and bulky that moving it around is a challenge. SARCAN director of system operations Sean Collins said the program's quick success had overwhelmed the organization, and that before the new equipment arrived, "we were buried in foam."

Small pieces, big pile, better ending.

After a rainy stretch kept plenty of players off the links, sunshine brought golfers back to Joanne Goulet Golf Course over the weekend. The parking lot was filling up as people took advantage of the better conditions, and that the weather made this season feel shorter than usual, especially after a tough spring. The course was still showing the effects of all that rain.

If you're hoping to sneak in one more round, tee times are still available, noting the course rarely hits full capacity. A final closing date has not yet been provided by the city, but the course typically stays open into October. Tucked into Regina's northwest, Joanne Goulet is the city's only 18-hole executive-length course, so you can play a full round in less than four hours. With highs in the mid-20s forecast Thursday and Friday, this could be the week.
