The mild stretch is holding: sunny and around 20°C today, climbing to near 22°C tomorrow and staying warm right through Wednesday, with barely a chance of rain. Good news for anyone still chasing patio season.

The Pats opened their season with a battle in Prince Albert, the Thunder stayed unbeaten with a road rout, and Regina's community spirit showed up big for STARS Air Ambulance. Let's get into it.

In today's edition:

The Regina Pats opened the 2026-27 Western Hockey League season Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre, falling 7-4 to the Prince Albert Raiders after clawing back from three separate multi-goal deficits. Keets Fawcett scored twice, opening his season with a two-goal night, while Ellis Mieyette added a goal and an assist. Import defenceman Ossi Tukio picked up two assists for his first WHL points. Regina pulled within one goal late in the second period before Prince Albert pulled away with a power-play marker and an empty-netter in the third.

Goaltenders Taylor Tabashniuk and Drake Mooney combined for 22 saves, and the Pats finished 2-for-4 on the power play. The Blue Brigade hit the road again Friday to face the Brandon Wheat Kings before returning home for the 2026 Home Opener on Sunday, September 27 at 2 p.m. against the Swift Current Broncos at the Brandt Centre.

The Regina Thunder stayed undefeated Sunday with a 61-10 road win over the Winnipeg Rifles in Prairie Football Conference action, scoring 51 unanswered points after a tight opening quarter. Quarterback Jayden Zelionka went 20-for-26 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns, plus 81 yards on the ground. Peter Boersch led the ground game with 93 yards on 16 carries, and Lucas Di Iorio hauled in eight catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

The win keeps Regina undefeated at 6-0 on the season. The Thunder face the Saskatoon Hilltops, currently second in the conference at 5-1, for the second time this year on Saturday, September 26 in Saskatoon.

An awfully good season to be a Thunder fan.

Five Saskatchewan business and community leaders raised a combined $774,000 for STARS Air Ambulance on Thursday, taking off from the STARS base in Regina for a day of fundraising and skill challenges. Allan Wiens, Jason LeBlanc, Shawn Patenaude, Bobbee-Jo Wood, and Cindy Michel each aimed to raise $50,000 to earn their flight home, travelling by helicopter to a site north of Regina near Lumsden for medical and aviation challenges before returning for the evening's A Night with STARS gala at Conexus Arts Centre.

STARS flew 859 missions across Saskatchewan last year alone, and organizers say the funds raised help keep the service in the air for the next patient who needs it.

A genuinely good day's work.

Mark your calendar: the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Truck Convoy and Truck Pull returns Saturday, October 3, in support of Special Olympics Saskatchewan. The convoy departs Saskatoon's SaskTel Centre at 8:30 a.m., led by police service members, and rolls south into Regina with a stop in Chamberlain before arriving at the Turvey Centre around noon, where a Regina Police Service team is already registered to compete in the truck pull.

Teams of eight to 10 people will pull a semi-truck across the finish line, with proceeds supporting year-round sport opportunities for more than 1,000 Special Olympics athletes across the province. The public is welcome to line the route or head to the Turvey Centre to cheer the teams on.
